A one-minute passage from the actual recording.
What’s Inside
- Twelve sleep-paced retellings, 3 minutes 45 seconds to 4 minutes 7 seconds each — 47 minutes 2 seconds in all
- Seven from Greek myth: Orpheus, Selene, Endymion, Psyche, Narcissus, Baucis and Philemon, and Hypnos, the god of sleep himself
- Chang'e from China, Izanagi from Japan, Rhodopis from Greek Egypt, the Sandman of northern folklore, and The Star Maiden's Shawl, an original story built on a motif told around the world
- One zip of about 68 MB: twelve numbered MP3s, the cover art, and a README naming the classical and folk sources behind each story
Who This Is For
For the listener who would rather fall asleep to an old story than to a meditation script. Nothing is asked of you: no breathing on cue, nothing to visualize. Put it on low and let sleep find you wherever it finds you. The next story will keep until tomorrow night.
Questions, Answered
- I already own the Orpheus or Selene single. Is this the same recording?
- No. Vol. 1 has new, longer retellings of both, recorded for this collection, plus ten more stories.
- Are these the traditional myths?
- Each one follows its classical or folk source, retold gently and paced for sleep. The README lists the sources story by story — Ovid, Apuleius, the Kojiki, Strabo, Andersen and others. They are told for rest and wonder, not as ritual instruction.
- Is The Star Maiden's Shawl a real myth?
- It is an original story, and the README says so. The star-maiden motif behind it turns up in folklore across the world; this particular telling is new.
- Is any of it frightening?
- Some stories are bittersweet: Orpheus and Izanagi both go down into the underworld. Every one is told quietly, for settling rather than suspense.
- How do I receive it?
- Instant download after checkout — a single zip of about 68 MB — with the link also emailed to you within seconds.
