Beginner's Guide to a Simple Protection Spell: Step-by-Step Tutorial

1. Understanding the Purpose & Ethics of Protection Magic

  • Protection spells create a barrier of positive energy – they are not meant to harm or control others.
  • Always set a clear, ethical intention (e.g., “I shield my home from negativity” rather than “I block a specific person”).
  • This spell is ideal for beginners because it uses simple ingredients and focuses on personal safety.

2. Gathering Your Supplies (What You’ll Need)

  • One white candle (represents purity and protection) and a fire-safe holder.
  • Sea salt or black salt (for grounding and warding off negative energy).
  • A small piece of black tourmaline or obsidian (optional but recommended for extra protection).

3. Preparing Yourself & Your Space

  • Cleanse the area by lighting incense (sage, frankincense, or palo santo) or by using sound (a bell or singing bowl).
  • Take three deep breaths to center yourself; visualize a white light surrounding your body.
  • Place your supplies on a clean, uncluttered surface – a small altar or even a kitchen table works.

4. Casting the Protection Spell (Step-by-Step)

  • Light the white candle and say aloud: “I call on the element of fire to guard this space.”
  • Sprinkle a circle of sea salt around the candle (or around yourself if you’re the target of protection) while stating your intention.
  • Hold the black tourmaline in your dominant hand and visualize a bubble of light expanding outward – repeat the intention three times.

5. Closing the Ritual & Grounding Your Energy
